Senior Manager Credit (Wholesale)

About the role

Absa Bank is seeking a seasoned Senior Manager for its Wholesale Credit division, based in Johannesburg. This pivotal role involves responsible management and sanctioning of credit for Wholesale Finance (Floorplan) clients, upholding Absa's stringent credit policies while fostering strong relationships across the credit value chain.

Key responsibilities

• Execute high‑quality credit sanctioning in line with Operational Level Agreements, assess risks, and ensure compliance with credit policies.
• Conduct thorough due‑diligence, financial analysis and scenario modelling for new and existing clients, preparing detailed proposals for the Credit Committee.
• Proactively manage an assigned wholesale credit portfolio, meet KPIs, report high‑risk accounts, and develop solutions for delinquent exposures.
• Maintain effective stakeholder relationships, mentor front‑line colleagues, and influence credit decisions through strong communication.
• Uphold risk, control and governance standards, ensure compliance with policies and legislation, and report significant risk events.
• Generate management information, maintain accurate data in credit systems (DGs, LGDs, limits, review dates) to drive RWA efficiencies.

Required profile

• BCom degree in Accounting or Finance (post‑graduate qualification advantageous).
• 5‑10 years experience in a financial institution, with at least 5 years of credit sanctioning under a personal mandate.
• Prior experience in Wholesale Finance (Floorplan) and commercial credit sanctioning.
• Deep understanding of credit and risk assessment tools, rating methodologies and their limitations.
• Demonstrated resilience, ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Experience delivering ad‑hoc training and coaching to junior staff.
• Strong grasp of financial markets, business acumen, and familiarity with legal agreements and transaction documentation.
• Proven ability to partner with business stakeholders to optimise credit processes and infrastructure.
