Senior Manager: Actuarial Quantification Management & Claims Risk

About the role

The Senior Manager will lead actuarial quantification and claims risk activities for the Road Accident Fund, reporting to the Head of Claims Risk. The role ensures accurate loss‑of‑income calculations, supports strategic planning and drives risk‑management initiatives across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and validate actuarial models for loss of earnings and loss of support benefits.
• Oversee the end‑to‑end actuarial calculation and reporting process, ensuring accuracy and compliance with professional guidance.
• Provide actuarial expertise to internal and external stakeholders, including interpretation of medical and expert reports.
• Develop forecasting models for accident frequency, claim volumes and financial projections.
• Support the claims administration team with risk‑management strategies, reporting matrices and operational efficiency improvements.
• Lead policy development, strategic planning, financial management and budgeting for the department.
• Manage stakeholder relationships, ensure regulatory reporting and champion risk‑management practices.
• Supervise people management activities, fostering team motivation and cohesion.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or advanced diploma in Actuarial Science or a related quantitative field; postgraduate qualification preferred.
• Qualified Associate or Fellow of an internationally recognised actuarial body (e.g., ASSA, IFoA, SoA, CAS).
• 9‑10 years of actuarial experience, including at least 3 years in a managerial capacity.
• Minimum 3 years of specialised experience in loss‑of‑income quantification and model development.
• Proven track record of signing off actuarial reports for damages and compensation.
