Senior Legal Counsel – South Africa

About the role

Moment is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to lead its South Africa legal function. You will act as the primary legal advisor, ensuring the business meets its commercial goals while staying fully compliant with local regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage all legal matters for Moment’s South Africa operations.
• Provide commercial legal support, corporate governance, and regulatory advice.
• Collaborate closely with compliance, finance, and sales teams on licensing and regulatory issues.
• Utilise and iterate on legal automation and AI tools to improve efficiency.
• Ensure that contracts, transactions, and business initiatives are legally sound.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience practising law in South Africa, preferably in technology or fintech.
• LLB or equivalent qualification and current admission to practice law in South Africa.
• Proven ability to work with cross‑functional stakeholders such as compliance, finance, and sales.
• Strong legal judgment, strategic thinking, and meticulous attention to detail.
• Experience in South African corporate law and governance.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
