Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

G7 Renewable Energies is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to lead the drafting, review and negotiation of key project contracts for its renewable energy portfolio in South Africa. The role will work closely with project teams, lenders and external advisors to ensure timely, compliant and high‑quality delivery of construction and operational agreements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the legal drafting, review and negotiation of major contracts, including EPC, split‑scope, O&M, commercial, offtake (PPA), equipment supply and ancillary agreements.
• Prepare legal responses to tenders and due‑diligence processes, coordinating all supporting documentation.
• Identify, engage and manage external legal advisors and subject‑matter experts as required.
• Coordinate with lenders’ counsel and other advisors throughout financing and financial close.
• Maintain up‑to‑date contractual records, PAIA manuals and risk registers.
• Develop and implement risk‑management processes, monitor contractual obligations and advise on disputes.
• Review and improve internal legal processes and policies to enhance efficiency and regulatory compliance.

Required profile

• Qualified attorney with extensive experience in energy, infrastructure or large‑scale project contracts.
• Proven track record of negotiating complex EPC, O&M, PPA and commercial agreements.
• Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience managing external counsel and coordinating legal aspects of financing transactions.
• Excellent analytical and drafting abilities, with attention to detail.
