Senior Legal Advisor

About the role

The Senior Legal Advisor provides leadership and specialist, sound legal advice on complex matters affecting the bank and its business units. The role ensures strategic outcomes are achieved while managing legal risk efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Advise senior leadership on legal interests, risks and obligations across the business area.
• Contribute legal insight to strategic and governance processes, especially executive decision‑making.
• Draft and review legal documentation, manage disputes and oversee legal projects.
• Evaluate potentially litigious matters and protect business interests in consultation with stakeholders.
• Identify emerging legal risks, monitor legislative changes and provide related training.
• Report on legal risk management and seek guidance on complex, ambiguous issues.
• Support development and implementation of internal controls, policies and guidelines aligned with statutory requirements.
• Leverage digitisation and technology to improve document review, reporting and information sharing.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience providing legal advice within a banking or financial services environment.
• Proven ability to lead legal risk management and influence strategic decisions.
• Strong understanding of complex commercial products and services.
