Senior Lecturer – Clinical Psychology

About the role

The University of KwaZulu-Natal’s School of Social Sciences seeks a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology to join its vibrant Psychology discipline. The role involves teaching, research, curriculum development and postgraduate supervision at the Pietermaritzburg campus.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in core psychology modules and specialised areas such as psychological assessment, psychopathology, neuropsychology and forensic psychology.
• Develop and enhance undergraduate and postgraduate curricula within the Psychology discipline.
• Supervise Masters and PhD students, guiding their research projects to successful completion.
• Conduct high‑quality research, publish in reputable scientific journals and contribute to the department’s research profile.
• Apply for research grants as Principal Investigator or team member to secure funding for scholarly activities.

Required profile

• PhD in Psychology or a closely related field.
• Professional Masters degree in Clinical Psychology.
• Minimum three years of relevant experience in teaching, research or professional practice.
• Demonstrated record of peer‑reviewed publications in quality scientific journals.
• Successful supervision of postgraduate students at Masters and/or PhD level.
• Experience in securing research grants.
• Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Clinical Psychologist, with at least three years post‑registration experience.
