Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor – Economics

About the role

The University of Johannesburg is seeking a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor for its School of Economics. The role involves full academic duties, including teaching, postgraduate supervision and a strong research focus, particularly in competition economics, regulation and sustainable industrial development in Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct and lead research projects on competition, regulation and sustainable industrial development in Africa.
• Design research programmes that inform policy for inclusive markets and sustainable development.
• Identify and apply for substantial multi‑year research grants.
• Mentor early‑career researchers and supervise postgraduate students.
• Develop and deliver teaching and professional training programmes related to competition economics and sustainable industrial development.
• Publish research findings in reputable national or international peer‑reviewed journals.

Required profile

• Relevant academic qualification (typically a PhD) in Economics or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated record of research in competition, regulation or sustainable industrial development, especially within the African context.
• Experience in teaching at university level and supervising postgraduate research.
• Ability to secure research funding and lead collaborative research teams.
