About the role

The Department of Applied Information Systems at the University of Johannesburg seeks a senior academic leader to deliver high‑quality, student‑centred teaching and drive strategic commercialisation initiatives. This full‑time position combines teaching, research, and industry engagement to strengthen the department’s national and international profile.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Applied Information Systems with a focus on student success.
• Supervise research projects and theses, fostering emerging scholars.
• Lead commercialisation strategies to generate revenue from university‑industry collaborations.
• Establish and nurture partnerships with private and public sector stakeholders.
• Develop short‑ and long‑term financial sustainability plans for the department.
• Conduct market research and recruitment campaigns for new programmes.
• Build and manage marketing partnerships and promotional activities.
• Advance a research pipeline in information systems and contribute to scholarly publications.

Required profile

• Proven academic standing with national and/or international recognition.
• Extensive experience teaching and supervising at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Demonstrated ability to lead commercial and industry‑engagement initiatives.
• Strong network with industry partners and experience in stakeholder management.
• Track record of securing research funding and publishing in information systems.
