Senior Infrastructure Technician – Wireless & Fibre

About the role

The Senior Infrastructure Technician will lead the construction and maintenance of wireless and fibre network infrastructure for Herotel. Reporting to the Team Leader – Infrastructure, the role is based in Bethlehem and involves both hands‑on installation and team mentorship.

Key responsibilities

• Construct, install and maintain communications towers, fibre networks and supporting structures such as data centres.
• Respond to network outages, including high‑site failures and fibre breaks, while meeting project deadlines.
• Climb towers of 50 m or more with up to 20 kg of equipment, performing antenna installation, repair and tower maintenance.
• Build, repair and expand fibre infrastructure, install and weather‑proof cables, connectors and power equipment.
• Lead and mentor less‑experienced tower technicians, planning future infrastructure needs.

Required profile

• 2–4 years of telecom or related field experience with a valid driver’s licence.
• Completed Working at Heights and Tower Rescue training and able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
• Physically fit to climb ladders, carry equipment and work in adverse weather conditions.
• Medical clearance and up‑to‑date medical certificate.
• Good understanding of municipal regulations and safety standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand tools, mechanical equipment and climbing gear.
• Experience using planning and monitoring software for infrastructure projects.
• Intermediate knowledge of AC/DC electricity, solar energy, power and battery systems.
• Intermediate understanding of network and RF principles, troubleshooting, and routing protocols.
• Knowledge of cable and trunking techniques, network hardware and software.
• OSHA certification (advantageous).
