Senior Field Security Associate

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks a Senior Field Security Associate to support its mission in South Africa. Reporting to the Chief of Mission and the Regional Security Officer, the incumbent will enhance security risk management and promote a culture of security awareness across the country office.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the UN Department of Safety and Security, host‑government agencies, and local authorities to obtain up‑to‑date security information.
• Assist the Chief of Mission in collecting, updating, and communicating the security situation in South Africa.
• Gather, verify, and analyse security data required for situational assessments.
• Support the development, implementation, and periodic review of country‑specific security plans, including contingency and emergency response procedures.
• Provide timely security briefings and recommendations to mission staff.

Required profile

• Significant experience in security risk management, preferably within an international or UN‑related environment.
• Strong knowledge of UN security policies and South African security context.
• Proven ability to liaise with governmental and multilateral partners.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and reporting skills.
