Senior Engineer – Electrical, Data Center

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of data‑center electrical systems. The role involves managing all phases of electrical engineering, from concept through construction and handover, ensuring compliance with client and international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and manage schedules, estimates, progress reports and procurement activities.
• Design LV and MV (up to 132 kV) electrical systems, including load lists, single‑line diagrams, network diagrams and schematic drawings.
• Perform fault‑level calculations, short‑circuit, load‑flow and protection‑coordination studies.
• Develop specifications for switchgear, transformers, motor control centres, VSDs, UPS, lighting, BMS and communication systems.
• Coordinate vendor data reviews, factory acceptance testing and field inspections.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and support client relations.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science or Engineering (Master preferred) from an accredited university.
• 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering within the built environment.
• Professional registration with ECSA (Engineer South Africa).

Required skills

• LV and MV electrical design and analysis.
• Creation of single‑line, network and schematic diagrams.
• Fault‑level, short‑circuit and load‑flow calculations.
• Cable sizing, earthing system design and lighting calculations.
• Specification of switchgear, transformers, VSDs, UPS and BMS equipment.
• Integration with PLC, DCS and Building Management Systems.
• Experience with Profibus, fieldbus and Ethernet communications.
