About the role
You will design, programme and commission complex automation systems for a manufacturer in Pinetown. The position is hands‑on, technically demanding and includes frequent international travel.
Key responsibilities
- Design end‑to‑end automation processes and specify hardware, control components and sensors.
- Program PLCs and HMIs for multi‑axis motion and servo control.
- Commission systems both locally and abroad, troubleshoot and resolve faults.
Required profile
- Trade‑tested electrician (Red Seal) – essential.
- Minimum five years’ experience in an automation environment and five years programming complex systems.
- Willingness to travel internationally on a regular basis.
- Electrical engineers with specialised automation programming may also be considered.
Required skills
- High‑level PLC programming in structured text.
- HMI development.
- Multi‑axis motion and servo motor control.
- EtherCAT, IO‑Link and Modbus communication protocols.
- Safety circuit design to recognised standards.
- Panel design, wiring diagrams, hardware and sensor specification.
