Senior Electrical Engineer – Renewable Energy (PrEng)

About the role

Our client, a leading EPC firm in the power generation sector, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer (Professional Engineer) to join the Renewable Energy Division in Century City, Cape Town. You will lead the design and delivery of low‑voltage (LV) and medium‑voltage (MV) electrical systems for industrial and renewable energy projects.

Key responsibilities

• Conceptual and detailed design of LV/MV systems, motor control centres, and plant reticulation networks.
• Design of DC plant, battery, PV and other renewable energy systems, including protection, switchgear, and cable distribution.
• Ensure compliance with the South African Grid Code, SANS, IEC standards and relevant safety regulations.
• Manage electrical interfaces with other disciplines and oversee procurement, tender evaluation, and contract documentation.
• Support fabrication, testing, commissioning and mentor junior engineers.
• Prepare cost estimates, BOQs and tender scopes of work.

Required profile

• BSc Eng or BEng in Electrical Engineering, registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer.
• Minimum 10 years of multi‑disciplinary project design experience in power generation.
• At least 5 years designing photovoltaic systems.
• Working knowledge of OHS Act, environmental legislation, ISO 9001 and the South African Grid Code.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ETAP or DigSilent power system analysis tools.
• Strong command of Microsoft Office applications.
• Technical report writing and documentation standards.
• Design of LV/MV motor control centres, protection systems, earthing and lightning protection.
