Senior Electrical Engineer (Pretoria)

About the role

This position combines managerial and technical responsibilities, overseeing the planning, direction and coordination of professional electrical designs to meet client requirements and legal standards. Based in Pretoria, the role involves travel to sites across Africa, South Africa and internationally as project needs dictate.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and control the electrical engineering department, ensuring all projects comply with company quality and safety standards.
• Lead the design team, reviewing and signing off detailed medium‑ and low‑voltage electrical designs and commissioning procedures.
• Coordinate project planning, tender preparation and client liaison to deliver designs that meet business strategies, cost targets and legislative requirements.
• Conduct site audits of existing infrastructure, generate compliance reports and oversee commissioning activities across Africa and international sites.
• Mentor and develop engineers and draftspeople, fostering optimal utilization of human resources and continuous improvement of design practices.

Required profile

• B.Eng (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering; ECSA registration is a strong advantage.
• Minimum 10 years of operational and design experience, including industrial plant and mining projects.
• Proven experience with SANS standards, MHS Act compliance and MCC design.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and deliver projects on time and within budget.

Required skills

• PLC and SCADA systems knowledge.
• Medium‑ and low‑voltage electrical design expertise.
• MCC (Motor Control Centre) design according to SANS.
• Commissioning procedures and documentation.
• Technical product knowledge and familiarity with relevant design software.
