Senior Electrical Engineer – Mining & Heavy Industry

About the role

The Senior Electrical Engineer will act as a senior technical specialist and discipline leader within Mventech's EC&I portfolio. This position requires independent engineering design, multidisciplinary project delivery, and technical assurance for mining, heavy‑industry and large‑infrastructure projects. The role offers the chance to shape innovative electrical solutions from concept through detailed design and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the full electrical engineering lifecycle, from conceptual studies to detailed design and commissioning.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams (electrical, mechanical, process, C&S, digital) to deliver project scopes, schedules and budgets.
• Develop and review LV/MV system designs, reticulation, MCCs, substations, protection schemes and power studies.
• Perform power system modelling, fault studies, arc‑flash analysis, load‑flow calculations and grading using ETAP.
• Prepare and approve design documentation including single‑line diagrams, schematics, cable schedules, design criteria, specifications, BoQs and commissioning packages.
• Ensure compliance with SANS, IEC, NEC/IEEE standards and relevant mining codes.
• Apply AACE Class 5‑2 study phases and project execution processes to maintain technical quality.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (required); Master’s degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering or Business is advantageous.
• Registered Professional Engineer (PrEng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (PrTechEng) with ECSA and member of a recognised engineering institution.
• 10+ years of experience in mining, heavy industry or large infrastructure projects.
• Proven leadership of electrical design, execution and technical studies.
• Demonstrated ability to manage project scopes, schedules, budgets and technical outputs.

Required skills

• LV/MV electrical systems, reticulation, MCCs, substations, protection and power studies.
• ETAP power‑systems modelling, fault analysis, arc‑flash and load‑flow modelling.
• Knowledge of SANS, IEC, NEC/IEEE and mining‑specific standards.
• Preparation of electrical design documents: single‑line diagrams, schematics, cable schedules, design criteria, specifications, BoQs and commissioning documentation.
• Familiarity with AACE Class 5‑2 study phases and multidisciplinary coordination.
