Senior DevOps Engineer (Level 3)

About the role

The Senior DevOps Engineer (Level 3) is a senior technical position responsible for designing, implementing and optimising enterprise‑scale DevOps practices. You will lead automation, CI/CD strategy, cloud‑native adoption and infrastructure modernisation while ensuring security, reliability and alignment with business transformation goals.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of DevOps practices across enterprise platforms.
• Define CI/CD and automation standards in line with corporate strategy.
• Drive adoption of cloud‑native platforms, micro‑services and container orchestration.
• Lead migration of legacy workloads to modern cloud environments.
• Ensure infrastructure meets performance, scalability and security requirements.
• Embed governance and compliance into automation and deployment pipelines.
• Lead incident resolution for critical production systems and implement robust monitoring, alerting and recovery solutions.
• Mentor Level 1 and Level 2 DevOps engineers and provide technical direction for tooling and deployment strategies.
• Identify emerging tools, frameworks and practices to continuously improve agile delivery.

Required profile

• NQF Level 7 qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field.
• Advanced DevOps or Cloud certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator Associate, AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Solutions Architect, AWS DevOps Engineer, AWS SysOps Administrator).
• 8+ years of experience in DevOps, software engineering or systems engineering roles.
• Proven experience designing CI/CD pipelines, cloud‑native infrastructure and automation frameworks.
• Strong expertise managing production environments and critical enterprise applications.
• Hands‑on experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes, OpenShift) and Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Ansible, Pulumi, Bicep).
• Demonstrated ability to support production workloads and manage incidents.
