Senior Design Architect – Large‑Scale Commercial Projects

About the role

A leading architectural firm with a strong local and international portfolio is seeking a commercially minded Senior Design Architect to join its Johannesburg design team. The role focuses on concept design and design development for large‑scale retail, hospitality and mixed‑use projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead concept design and design development for large‑scale architectural projects.
• Take ownership of projects from initial concept through design development, working closely with Design Directors.
• Manage and coordinate a design team to ensure efficient progress and high design standards.
• Produce high‑quality design documentation, presentations and visual material for clients and stakeholders.

Required profile

• Recognised qualification in Architecture.
• Approximately 10 + years of architectural design experience, especially in retail, hospitality and mixed‑use developments.
• Proven ability to develop concepts and guide projects through design development.
• Experience leading or managing a design team and working independently.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Revit (essential).
• Proficiency in SketchUp and AutoCAD (advantageous).
