Senior Data Engineer – SQL Focus

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to lead the design, build, and operation of data pipelines and platform capabilities that support analytics, billing, AI/ML workloads and commercial reporting across the organisation. This hands‑on role will own end‑to‑end delivery for one or more domains on a modern cloud‑native data platform.

Key responsibilities

• Own the design, development, and long‑term operation of ELT pipelines and curated data products across one or more domains.
• Set the modelling approach in Snowflake for staging, intermediate, and data‑mart layers, ensuring reusable, well‑tested patterns.
• Lead data ingestion and exposure of new sources from discovery through production.
• Define and evolve data‑quality, monitoring, and observability standards.
• Drive cost efficiency, query performance, and storage optimisation within Snowflake, including warehouse strategy and clustering.
• Manage schema evolution, data lineage, and documentation for your domain.
• Contribute to platform standards, tooling, and architectural direction.
• Lead production support, on‑call rotation, incident response, and post‑mortems.
• Mentor Level 1 and Level 2 engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
• Partner with analytics engineers, data scientists, AI/ML engineers, platform engineers, and software engineers to deliver end‑to‑end data solutions.
• Champion automation and AI‑assisted development techniques to improve pipeline quality and delivery speed.
• Continuously evaluate modern data and AI‑driven approaches and influence adoption.

Required profile

• 5–9 years of data‑engineering experience with end‑to‑end ownership of production systems.
• Deep expertise in SQL and strong Python programming skills.
• Extensive hands‑on experience with Snowflake, including query profiling, warehouse strategy, RBAC, cost management, clustering, and performance tuning.
• Advanced experience with dbt, including custom transformations and testing.
• Proven ability to mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders.
