Senior Boilermaker M/F

About the role

White Horse Carriers, a road haulage company based in South Africa and part of the MSC Group, is looking for a Senior Boilermaker to join its Brentwood, Johannesburg workshop. The role supports the Zambia-based Zalawi Haulage cross-border truck and trailer fleet by fabricating, repairing and maintaining structural components, leading assistant boilermakers and keeping to workshop SOPs.

Key responsibilities

• Fabricate, assemble and repair metal structures and components for Zalawi trucks and trailers, including chassis, body panels and load-bearing frameworks.
• Weld, cut and shape metal parts using MIG, TIG and arc welders, plasma cutters and oxy-acetylene torches.
• Inspect and maintain structural components for wear, corrosion or damage and ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Assign tasks to assistant boilermakers, give clear instructions and ensure work follows workshop SOPs.
• Document all work, materials used and service records for fleet maintenance tracking.
• Collaborate with the workshop team, mentor junior boilermakers and stay up to date on fabrication techniques and welding technologies.
• Follow jobcard processes and stores/parts handling procedures, and report to the Deputy Technical Manager on issues.
• Maintain safe, clean workspaces, monitor work quality and ensure tools and machines are used safely.

Required profile

• Extensive experience as a boilermaker, preferably with heavy-duty trucks and trailers or similar heavy equipment.
• Relevant trade certification or diploma in boilermaking, welding or metal fabrication.
• Strong knowledge of welding techniques, metal fabrication and structural repair.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints and specifications.
• Leadership skills, problem-solving ability, attention to detail and physical ability to handle heavy materials.
• Valid driver's licence (Code 14 preferred but not mandatory).

The position is full-time in the Brentwood workshop, with occasional on-road assistance for repairs and breakdowns, and may involve overtime or weekend work. Adherence to safety protocols and PPE is required.
