Senior Backend Engineer (Real-time Collaboration)

About the role

Lessonspace is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to help accelerate the release of education tools and features. You will work on a globally networked real‑time stack that powers audio, video and collaborative learning experiences for thousands of lessons worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with the engineering team to deliver solutions ranging from client‑level assistance to stack‑spanning feature implementations.
• Partner with support and operations to analyse large‑client problems and design robust solutions.
• Gain a holistic understanding of the Lessonspace stack, infrastructure and internal development environment.
• Own feature releases, testing and reliability, delivering major releases with confidence.
• Work at the nexus of engineering, sales and operations to support onboarding of large customers.

Required profile

• 6+ years of industry experience in software engineering.
• Proven ability to work independently on complex, client‑facing problems.
• Experience in an engineering team that interacts directly with customers.
• University degree is optional but preferred.

Required skills

• Node.js and related testing frameworks.
• Networking and network‑driven system experience.
• Linux environment proficiency, especially shell scripting.
• Python (Django a plus).
• Familiarity with real‑time technologies such as WebRTC, CRDTs and Janus.
• Frontend knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and a reactive framework (Vue or React).
