Senior Associate – Banking & Finance Attorney (Bilateral & Syndicated Lending)

About the role

An exceptional opportunity exists for an experienced Banking & Finance Attorney to join a specialist global banking legal team in Cape Town. The role focuses on high‑volume, high‑value bilateral and syndicated lending transactions for international banking clients, requiring strong commercial judgment and meticulous drafting skills.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, negotiate and amend a wide range of commercial lending and banking documentation, including facility letters, loan agreements, security documents and board resolutions.
• Manage document workflows from initial draft through execution, ensuring version control and documentation integrity in a fast‑paced environment.
• Handle legal queries independently, assess risks, identify inconsistencies and commercial issues, and escalate matters when necessary.
• Apply consistent legal standards across templates, playbooks and structured finance frameworks, maintaining high drafting accuracy.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders (legal, credit, compliance, tax, business control) and external counsel to ensure seamless transaction execution.

Required profile

• Admitted Attorney with a BCom LLB degree.
• Minimum 5 years post‑admission experience in banking & finance, commercial lending and transactional legal practice.
• Proven track record drafting, reviewing and negotiating bilateral and syndicated loan agreements, including LMA‑style finance documentation.
• Strong legal analysis and interpretation skills, with experience operating in a documentation‑heavy, high‑speed environment.
