Senior Accountant – Property

About the role

A well‑established organisation is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant with strong property accounting expertise to join its finance team in Johannesburg. You will manage the full accounting function for a diverse property portfolio, ensuring accurate financial reporting and robust controls. The role requires technical proficiency, analytical thinking and the ability to provide reliable financial insights for business decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full accounting function for a portfolio of properties, including monthly management accounts, balance‑sheet reconciliations and variance investigations.
• Account for rental income, recoveries, utilities, operating costs and other property‑related expenses, and support property budgets and forecasts.
• Monitor rental and tenant collections, review supplier invoices, reconcile statements and resolve creditor/debtor queries.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end close processes, including accruals, pre‑payments, provisions and journal entries.
• Prepare annual property budgets, forecasts and performance reports, analysing actual results against budget.
• Support internal and external audit processes and ensure compliance with accounting standards and statutory reporting requirements.

Required profile

• BCom Accounting or equivalent qualification; professional accounting designation (SAIPA, SAICA, CIMA) is advantageous.
• Minimum five years of accounting experience with strong exposure to property accounting.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with property accounting or ERP systems.
• Proven ability in budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and cash‑flow management.
• Excellent attention to detail, strong analytical skills and the ability to meet strict reporting deadlines.
