Senior Accountant – Johannesburg North

About the role

We are looking for a seasoned finance professional to take ownership of the financial stewardship of a large operational business unit in Johannesburg North. This senior accountant will partner closely with senior management and national leadership to drive profitability, governance and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Lead financial strategy, planning and management for the business unit.
• Drive annual budgeting, forecasting and financial planning aligned with strategic objectives.
• Partner with senior leadership to improve profitability, achieve EBIT targets and support commercial decisions.
• Analyse monthly performance, identify risks and opportunities, and implement corrective actions.
• Own and strengthen internal controls, ensuring compliance with policies and governance standards.
• Lead audit processes, resolve findings and ensure timely submission of audit requirements.
• Oversee debtors, creditors, procurement, revenue and cash management to maintain financial integrity.
• Monitor CAPEX and OPEX expenditure, enforcing disciplined budget management.
• Drive accountability across departments by challenging expenditures and enforcing policy compliance.
• Manage financial reporting, reconciliations and month‑end processes for accuracy and completeness.
• Lead operational and system improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, controls and reporting.
• Act as the key financial business partner to senior management, providing insight and strategic support.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of senior accounting or finance management experience.
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to influence operational and strategic decisions.
• Extensive experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and performance management.
• Proven ability to implement and enforce robust internal controls.
• Solid audit, compliance, risk management and governance background.
• Comfortable challenging stakeholders and driving financial accountability at all levels.
• Leadership experience with strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, complex environment.
• Resilient, decisive and confident in handling difficult conversations.
