Security Guard – Pietermaritzburg Store

About the role

Dis-Chem is seeking a Security Guard for its Pietermaritzburg Security Stores. The role involves delivering security services in line with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act and Dis-Chem’s own standards to protect assets, staff and customers.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular random patrols of the premises to maintain visibility and deter criminal activity.
• Control access by monitoring vehicle and pedestrian entry points and documenting authorised access.
• Investigate and report signs of damage, unlawful entry or suspicious behaviour to management.
• Maintain registers, occurrence books and perform searches of staff, suppliers and merchandise as required.
• Respond to emergencies, coordinate with police or fire services, and provide assistance during evacuations.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate with at least a Grade C accreditation.
• Minimum three years experience in the retail sector (e.g., shopping malls, warehouses).
• At least one year of specific experience in a similar security role is advantageous.
• PSIRA registration (Grade C accreditation) and a clear criminal and credit record.

Required skills

• Knowledge of PSIRA regulations and compliance.
• Fire emergency and health‑and‑safety training.
• Proficiency in English (read, write, speak).
