Sales Representative - Capital Equipment / Packaging Machinery

About the role

An international supplier of advanced packaging machinery and automated solutions is looking for a technically‑oriented Sales Representative to expand its customer base across South Africa. The role focuses on selling capital equipment and packaging machinery to manufacturing and production environments.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and develop new business opportunities through prospecting and cold‑calling.
• Manage the full sales cycle from initial contact to negotiation and closing.
• Conduct client needs assessments and recommend suitable machinery and automation solutions.
• Prepare quotations, technical proposals, ROI analyses and presentations.
• Build and maintain relationships with production managers, engineers, procurement teams and senior decision‑makers.
• Collaborate with technical and engineering teams to design customer solutions.
• Maintain accurate CRM records, sales forecasts and reports.
• Attend customer sites, trade shows and industry events, providing after‑sales follow‑up.

Required profile

• Proven capital equipment sales experience (essential).
• Experience selling packaging or industrial machinery is highly advantageous.
• Strong new‑business development and cold‑calling skills.
• Ability to manage long, high‑value sales cycles and close deals.
• Good technical aptitude and understanding of production processes.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation abilities.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel across South Africa.

Required skills

• CRM (customer relationship management) proficiency.
