SAIPA Trainee – Accounting & Taxation Role

About the role

Our client, an established accounting and taxation practice in Pretoria, is looking for a bright and independent trainee to work towards qualification as a Professional Accountant (SAIPA). This full‑time position offers hands‑on experience in accounting, tax and client services.

Key responsibilities

• Capture and record financial transactions and perform reconciliations.
• Maintain bookkeeping up to trial balance and prepare annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS for SMEs.
• Calculate and lodge income tax, provisional tax, VAT and PAYE returns using e‑filing platforms.
• Assist senior accountants with client matters, administrative tasks and query resolution.
• Complete tasks required by the SAIPA competency framework and any other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Currently studying for or holding a BCom degree or equivalent qualification.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical ability, able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Independent, self‑motivated and eager to develop professionally.
• Good physical and mental health.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Familiarity with accounting software such as Draftworx, Xero or Pastel (advantageous).
• Understanding of IFRS for SMEs and South African tax regulations.
