Safety Officer (Mining)

About the role

Exxaro Resources is seeking a dedicated Safety Officer to support its mining operations in Durnacol and Hlobane, KwaZulu-Natal. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act, coordinating legal safety requirements, and leading incident investigations to maintain a safe work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and enforce compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act regulations.
• Coordinate and implement legal safety requirements across the sites.
• Lead investigations of incidents and near‑misses, producing corrective actions.
• Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
• Develop and deliver safety training programmes for employees and contractors.
• Oversee contractor safety performance and ensure adherence to company standards.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification in occupational health and safety or a related field.
• Experience in mining or heavy‑industry environments is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of South African mine safety legislation.
• Excellent investigative and analytical abilities.
• Ability to communicate safety expectations clearly to diverse teams.
