Road Worker – Multiple Locations in Gauteng

About the role

The Department is recruiting 54 Road Workers to carry out routine road construction and maintenance across Gauteng. The role involves working on a variety of tasks from pothole patching to installing road furniture, often at different sites throughout the province.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine road construction and maintenance activities in line with approved programmes and safety standards.
• Carry out pothole patching, crack sealing, surfacing, re‑graveling and repair of road earthworks, culverts and drainage systems.
• Install, replace, repair and clean road traffic signs, markings, delineators and other road furniture.
• Operate and maintain hand tools, small plant and specialised equipment, ensuring they are safeguarded and reported if defective.
• Maintain clean and safe work sites, complying with occupational health and safety requirements.

Required profile

• National Qualifications Framework Level 1 qualification or Adult Basic Education and Training Level 4 certificate (or equivalent).
• No prior work experience required.
• Ability to work under pressure, in a team and communicate effectively.
• Basic literacy – ability to read and write.
