Risk and Compliance Specialist

About the role

Icebolethu Group is seeking a Risk and Compliance Specialist to develop, implement and monitor risk management and compliance programmes across its companies. The role is based at the Head Office in Durban and focuses on building a robust Enterprise Risk Management framework.

Key responsibilities

• Identify potential risks across financial, operational and regulatory sectors.
• Support business units in designing and executing risk mitigation strategies.
• Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls and risk plans.
• Develop, test and implement Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans.
• Conduct Business Impact Analyses to strengthen organisational resilience.
• Monitor compliance, track Key Risk Indicators and report exposures to stakeholders.
• Maintain and update risk and compliance policies and ensure employee adherence.
• Promote a risk‑aware culture through training and education initiatives.
• Streamline risk and compliance processes for operational efficiency.
• Monitor legislative changes and adjust compliance programmes accordingly.
• Assist in minimising workplace injury and OHS non‑compliance risks.
• Prepare accurate risk and compliance reports for senior management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Risk Management, Finance or a related field.
• Postgraduate Diploma in Risk/Compliance Management (advantageous).
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in corporate risk and compliance roles.
• Experience in the insurance or funeral industry preferred.
• Familiarity with governance frameworks such as King IV, ISO 31000 and ISO 22301.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Knowledge of reporting dashboards or Business Intelligence tools.
