Retail Assistant Manager

About the role

The Retail Assistant Manager will support the Retail Manager in overseeing daily store operations, ensuring smooth workflow and profit optimisation. You will drive customer traffic, maintain high satisfaction levels and guarantee product availability at all times.

Key responsibilities

• Place and follow up on stock orders with factories and suppliers.
• Receive, inspect and record deliveries, managing shortfalls and damages.
• Monitor daily stock levels, generate depletion reports and control shrinkage.
• Maintain store cleanliness, HACCP standards and occupational health and safety compliance.
• Support merchandising, pricing and promotional activities to boost sales.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (mandatory) with a Diploma/Degree in Retail, Business or related field (advantageous).
• Minimum 5 years retail experience, preferably in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Knowledge of inventory, buying, staff management, merchandising, cost control and profitability.
• Familiarity with FMCG environment, perishable product handling and relevant legislation.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
• Experience with ERP systems.
• Use of Meat Matrix or similar stock management software.
