Resident Engineer (Fixed-Term Contract)

About the role

A leading multi‑disciplinary project management firm urgently seeks a Resident Engineer on site to plan and coordinate the construction of roads in the Koukamma region of the Eastern Cape.

Key responsibilities

• Review tender documentation and drawings immediately upon appointment.
• Manage site staff, including PLO, trainees and sub‑consultants (materials laboratory, OH&S, EMP, etc.).
• Report to the Contracts Engineer and liaise with the main contractor.
• Lead monthly site, technical and PLC meetings and prepare payment certificates.
• Prepare and submit Work Authorization Forms for approval and apply SANRAL policies.
• Monitor environmental compliance, daily construction progress, quality and safety, ensuring budget and programme adherence.
• Maintain daily diaries, monthly progress reports and as‑built drawings, and produce close‑out reports.

Required profile

• Proven project management skills with ability to work independently and within a team.
• Excellent written and oral communication, strong organisational and time‑management abilities.
• Ability to identify critical issues, apply industry best practices and meet deadlines under pressure.
• Experience leading and motivating site teams and providing technical support.

Required skills

• Civil Engineering degree.
• Professional Engineer registration (PrEng) with ECSA.
• Knowledge of asphalt patching and surfacing seal construction.
• Familiarity with COTO and FIDIC contract frameworks.
• Proficiency in MS Outlook, MS Teams and MS Project.
