About the role
The Biomedical Research and Innovation Platform (BRIP) at the South African Medical Research Council is looking for a Research Technologist to provide technical and operational support for the efficient day‑to‑day functioning of its laboratories in Cape Town.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain laboratory facilities, equipment, glassware and workstations.
- Prepare reagents, buffers and consumables and support routine laboratory activities.
- Collect, handle and track wastewater and biological samples.
- Maintain laboratory stock, records, temperature logs and quality documentation.
- Support scientists, technologists, students and researchers while ensuring compliance with health, safety, biosafety and GLP requirements.
Required profile
- Grade 12 (NQF level 4) plus a 1‑ or 2‑year accredited laboratory‑related course.
- At least two years of practical experience operating standard laboratory equipment.
- Two years’ experience with laboratory safety procedures, PPE requirements and waste‑disposal regulations.
- Experience maintaining glassware, consumables, storage facilities and monitoring freezers and temperature logs.
- Experience supporting scientists and technologists during testing and experiments.
- Experience in specimen collection, transport and handling, as well as inventory and stock control.

- Autoclave sterilisation of equipment and consumables.
