Research Assistant Intern – Public Health Programme

About the role

The Research Assistant Intern will support Aurum South Africa in developing, implementing, and assessing a multi‑country HIV programme focused on key populations and migrants. This role offers a structured immersion in real‑world public health implementation and research, providing exposure to regional coordination, community‑led approaches, partner engagement, evidence generation, and health‑systems challenges in Southern Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Support planning, coordination, and follow‑up of programme activities across workstreams.
• Assist in developing concept notes, workplans, implementation trackers, and briefing materials.
• Coordinate with country teams, partners, and technical leads working with key populations and migrants.
• Document programme adaptations, lessons learned, and emerging implementation priorities.
• Track deliverables, timelines, risks, and action points linked to programme implementation.
• Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and follow‑up actions for internal and partner coordination platforms.
• Compile, clean, review, and interpret programme performance information.
• Support review of routine data, dashboards, and partner reports to identify trends and gaps.
• Develop and maintain simple performance‑tracking tools.
• Synthesize findings into short decision‑support products.
• Assist with literature reviews, background research, data summaries, and presentation materials.
• Contribute to documentation of promising practices and learning products.
• Support logistics, scheduling, and document preparation for programme review and learning meetings.
