Reporting Assistant

About the role

The National Assembly is seeking a Reporting Assistant to produce accurate first‑draft transcripts of all plenary and committee proceedings. Working under the Senior Reporter, you will ensure that parliamentary debates are captured promptly and reliably in both Sesotho and English.

Key responsibilities

• Record speeches, statements, and debates from plenary sessions and committee meetings using audio recording equipment.
• Transcribe recorded material into written drafts in Sesotho and English.
• Maintain and safeguard all recording and transcription equipment.
• Produce typed copies of the Hansard for distribution.

Required profile

• Diploma in Secretarial Studies or equivalent from a recognised institution.
• Minimum two years’ experience operating audio recording devices.
• Typing speed of at least 40 wpm and audio‑typing speed of 100 wpm.
• Strong understanding of parliamentary procedures and willingness to work overtime when needed.

Required skills

• Proficiency with audio recording equipment.
• Word processing and typing proficiency.
• Transcription accuracy in both Sesotho and English.
