Registered Nurse – Theatre Trained (Gauteng)

About the role

A leading private hospital in Gauteng is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse with theatre training to join its surgical team. The role involves delivering safe, high‑quality nursing care throughout the peri‑operative process in a fast‑paced operating theatre environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scrub, circulate and assist during surgical procedures following hospital protocols.
• Prepare the operating theatre, instruments and specialised equipment before each case.
• Maintain and account for all theatre equipment and instruments.
• Monitor patients before, during and after surgery to ensure safety and optimal outcomes.
• Uphold strict infection prevention and control standards within the theatre complex.
• Administer prescribed medication and treatments within the scope of practice.
• Maintain accurate patient records and theatre documentation.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists and the multidisciplinary team.
• Ensure compliance with SANC regulations, hospital policies and quality standards.
• Participate in professional development and quality improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in General Nursing.
• Post‑basic Diploma or Bachelor’s in Operating Theatre/Perioperative Nursing (essential).
• Minimum 5 years operating theatre nursing experience, preferably in a private hospital.
• Strong clinical knowledge of the peri‑operative environment.
• Excellent communication, organisational and critical‑thinking abilities.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.
