Registered Nurse – Surgical Ward

About the role

The Registered Nurse will deliver cost‑effective, safe, high‑quality patient care in line with hospital standards and policies, providing both direct and indirect nursing care to patients on a surgical ward. The role involves assessing, planning, executing and supervising care to meet individual patient needs.

Key responsibilities

• Practice patient care according to the Scope of Practice and assume total responsibility.
• Communicate effectively with doctors regarding patient requirements.
• Contribute to the holistic care of patients and promote their health and wellbeing.
• Attend handover of report at shift commencement and ensure accurate documentation.
• Audit health records to ensure compliance with standards.
• Manage stock, ensuring it is controlled, charged, and credited appropriately.
• Maintain good public relations with patients, relatives, and visitors.

Required profile

• Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse.
• Experience working in a surgical ward.
• Ability to implement and maintain health practice standards required by accredited bodies and legislation.
• Flexibility to work varying hours and shifts.
