Registered Nurse – Paediatric Ward

About the role

The Registered Nurse will deliver cost‑effective, safe and high‑quality patient care on the Paediatric Ward, adhering to hospital standards and policies. As a professional practitioner, the nurse is accountable for all actions and omissions and will provide both direct and indirect nursing care to individual patients or groups, covering assessment, planning, execution and supervision of care.

Key responsibilities

• Render and promote cost‑effective, safe, high‑quality patient care in line with hospital standards and policies.
• Assess, plan, execute and supervise nursing interventions for patients, ensuring needs are met.
• Act as a role model in evidence‑based practice and actively participate in clinical governance and health‑record auditing.
• Control and manage stock, ensure proper charging and crediting, and implement effective risk prevention and management.
• Manage acuity and skill mix to maintain appropriate levels of care.

Required profile

• Registered with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse or Midwife.
• 1–5 years of experience in a similar nursing position, with essential paediatric experience.
• Experience caring for cardio‑thoracic or ventilated patients.
• Compliance with the SANC code and all applicable health‑care legislation.
• Relevant specialist qualification is advantageous.
