Registered Nurse – Operating Theatre (Theatre Qualified)

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Registered Nurse with theatre experience to join the surgical team at Life Hilton Private Hospital in Johannesburg. Reporting to the Theatre Unit Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring safe, efficient and high‑quality surgical care for patients.

Key responsibilities

• Accurately manage theatre clocking time and charging to support financial management.
• Control consignment stock, equipment and prostheses in line with hospital policy.
• Participate in regular stock‑taking and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
• Educate and supervise staff on correct use of theatre equipment and instrumentation.
• Obtain pre‑operative information, visit patients post‑operatively and ensure patient comfort during procedures.
• Assist surgeons during operations and provide high‑quality patient care.
• Deliver theatre‑specific training, assess staff competence and monitor normal and overtime hours.
• Ensure compliance with PPE use, ISO requirements and proper medical waste disposal.
• Maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, attending meetings and escalating unresolved issues.

Required profile

• General Nursing Degree or Diploma with experience in Operating Theatre Nursing.
• Clinical competence in Operating Theatre Nursing; postgraduate qualification in the same field is preferred.
• Midwifery qualification is an advantage.
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) and current Basic Life Support certification.
• Understanding of the private healthcare industry and computer proficiency are advantageous.
