Registered Nurse – Operating Theatre

About the role

The Life Groenkloof Hospital is seeking a qualified Registered Nurse to work in the operating theatre. Reporting to the Unit Manager, you will support the surgical team and ensure optimal patient care throughout procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Assist surgeons during operations, ensuring patient comfort and safety pre‑ and post‑operatively.
• Manage theatre clocking time, charge accurately, and oversee consignment stock, equipment and prostheses in line with hospital policy.
• Educate and supervise staff on proper use of theatre equipment and instrumentation.
• Participate in stock taking, monitor overtime hours, and provide theatre‑specific training and competency assessments.
• Ensure compliance with personal protective equipment, ISO standards, and proper disposal of medical waste.
• Maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders by attending review meetings and escalating unresolved issues.

Required profile

• General Nursing Degree or Diploma and a Diploma in Operating Theatre Technique.
• Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Experience in orthopaedics and orthopaedic spine surgery is advantageous.
• Understanding of the private healthcare environment and basic computer proficiency.
