Registered Nurse – Operating Room (Ophthalmology)

About the role

We are seeking a Registered Nurse to serve as the Operating Room – Ophthalmology Service Line Coordinator. In this role you will act as the primary liaison between surgeons, mid‑level providers and the peri‑operative team, ensuring smooth daily clinical operations for ophthalmology surgeries.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain rapport with surgeons and mid‑level providers, serving as their direct resource for daily surgical needs.
• Organize and lead meetings with surgeons to discuss case flow, supply requirements and OR efficiency.
• Coordinate staffing with OR charge nurses to provide consistent surgical teams.
• Collaborate with scheduling to align block time, office time and call time for surgeons.
• Assist and scrub in on ophthalmic procedures, maintaining a sterile field and anticipating surgeon needs.
• Manage and update preference cards, conducting quarterly reviews with surgeons for approval.
• Ensure timely procedural starts, efficient turnover, and accurate surgical documentation.
• Work with materials management and charging for procedures and implants.
• Provide education and in‑service training on ophthalmology equipment, instrumentation and supplies.
• Liaise with vendors and coordinate weekly debrief meetings to address needs and improve efficiency.
• Communicate updates on preference cards, instrumentation, medications and equipment to the OR team.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with experience in an operating‑room environment.
• Familiarity with ophthalmology surgical procedures and related instrumentation.
• Strong ability to coordinate clinical teams and manage daily workflow.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with surgeons, providers and support staff.

Required skills

• Proficiency in maintaining a sterile field and assisting in surgical procedures.
• Experience with preference‑card management and surgical documentation.
• Knowledge of ophthalmic equipment, implants and instrumentation.
