Registered Nurse / Independent Clinical Technologist

About the role

The Dialysis Practitioner provides safe, high‑quality, evidence‑based dialysis care for patients with chronic kidney disease. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the role focuses on person‑centred treatment, shared decision‑making and supporting patient self‑management.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver haemodialysis and/or peritoneal dialysis services in line with professional and regulatory standards.
• Operate dialysis equipment and water‑treatment systems, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses and allied health staff to coordinate care plans.
• Participate in clinical audits, quality‑improvement initiatives and monitor patient‑reported outcomes.
• Educate and counsel patients and families on dialysis procedures, lifestyle adjustments and self‑care.

Required profile

• Degree in Nursing or BTech in Clinical Technology.
• Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Nurse/Midwife or with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Clinical Technologist.
• 1‑2 years of experience in a haemodialysis and/or peritoneal dialysis unit.
• Knowledge of relevant healthcare legislation (National Health Act, POPIA, OHS) and professional ethical rules.
• Commitment to continuous learning and quality improvement.
