Registered Nurse / Independent Clinical Technologist – Dialysis Practitioner

About the role

The Dialysis Practitioner provides safe, high‑quality, evidence‑based dialysis care to patients with chronic kidney disease. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the role focuses on person‑centred treatment, patient safety and continuous improvement of clinical outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver haemodialysis and/or peritoneal dialysis services in accordance with professional and regulatory standards.
• Operate dialysis machines and water‑treatment systems, ensuring proper set‑up, monitoring and maintenance.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses and allied health staff to coordinate care and support shared decision‑making.
• Participate in clinical audits, quality‑improvement initiatives and monitor patient‑reported outcomes.
• Provide patient education and counselling to promote self‑management and adherence to treatment plans.

Required profile

• Degree in Nursing or BTech in Clinical Technology.
• Registered with SANC as a Registered Nurse/Midwife or with HPCSA as a Clinical Technologist (Independent Practice).
• 1‑2 years experience in a haemodialysis and/or peritoneal dialysis unit.
• Experience managing chronic kidney disease patients and operating dialysis equipment.
• Knowledge of quality‑improvement, risk‑management principles and relevant healthcare legislation (National Health Act, POPIA, OHS, SANC/HPCSA ethical rules).
