Registered Nurse – Anesthetic/Floor (Locum)

About the role

We are looking for a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to work as an Anesthetic/Floor Nurse on a locum basis within our dynamic theatre team in Mbombela. You will provide high‑quality nursing care to patients undergoing surgical and medical procedures that require anaesthesia.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare patients for anaesthetic procedures and offer reassurance and support.
• Assist anaesthetists before, during, and after procedures.
• Monitor patients' vital signs and clinical condition throughout the peri‑operative period.
• Ensure anaesthetic equipment, medications, and consumables are available, functional, and correctly prepared.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control protocols.
• Respond effectively to emergency situations and provide appropriate patient care.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists, and theatre staff to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
• Participate in quality‑improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse qualification with current registration on the relevant Nursing Council.
• Ability to work shifts on weekends, nights and on‑call duties.
• 2–3 years of experience in an anaesthetic or operating theatre environment.
• Sound knowledge of anaesthetic procedures, equipment and patient monitoring.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (advantageous).
• Competence in operating anaesthetic equipment.
• Proficiency in patient monitoring technologies.
• Perioperative/Theatre Nursing certification (advantageous).
