Registered Nurse - Anaesthetics & Recovery

About the role

We are seeking a Registered Nurse specialised in anaesthetics and recovery to join a healthcare facility in the south of Johannesburg. The role can be full‑time or half‑day, working Monday to Friday from 7 am. The successful candidate will provide high‑quality patient care and support the nursing team in a peri‑operative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and utilise a high level of clinical expertise to meet patient care standards.
• Provide visible nursing services, mentoring and support to the nursing team.
• Assist the matron and deputy matron in their absence.
• Contribute to excellent patient‑centred service delivery.
• Order stock online or via email and assist with related administrative tasks.
• Work effectively with other healthcare professionals and stakeholders.
• Ensure adherence to quality and safety standards.
• Participate directly in patient care as needed.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse qualification.
• Minimum 5 years experience in anaesthetics and recovery.
• Strong computer literacy.
• Preferred experience in stock management.
• Availability for full‑time or half‑day shifts, Monday‑Friday from 7 am.

Required skills

• Anaesthetic techniques, drugs and equipment.
• Pre‑operative assessment and post‑operative care.
• Supporting the anaesthesiologist and preparing equipment.
• Patient monitoring before, during and after surgery.
• Pain control and vital‑sign monitoring during recovery.
• Emergency airway management and resuscitation.
• Operating theatre protocols and sterile techniques.
• Infection control and patient positioning.
• Patient safety and risk management, including WHO surgical checklist, incident reporting and root‑cause analysis.
• Computer literacy and stock management.
