About the role
The Provincial Education Officer will work closely with the Provincial Secretary and union leaders to develop and implement education and training strategies for NEHAWU members in KwaZulu‑Natal.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and roll out basic education and skills development programmes for shop stewards.
- Design and implement cutting‑edge union political programmes.
- Plan, execute and report on provincial education and training initiatives.
- Manage the education budget and ensure proper financial reporting.
- Maintain attendance records for union, COSATU, DITSELA and other authorised courses.
- Facilitate Provincial Education Committee meetings.
- Collaborate with HR, gender structures and national officers on training and women’s leadership programmes.
- Support health and safety training and AIDS awareness programmes.
- Represent the union in COSATU education structures and contribute to national education strategies.
Required profile
- Grade 12 / Matric qualification.
- Relevant tertiary qualification.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a trade‑union environment.
- Strong presentation, facilitation and conflict‑management abilities.
Required skills
- Ability to develop, plan and implement training programmes.
- Conceptual skills for strategic initiative implementation.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of adult education within a union context.
- Understanding and interpretation of relevant legislation.
