Property Accountant

About the role

A leading property investment and development organisation is seeking a Property Accountant to join its finance team. The role involves managing the financial administration and accounting for a portfolio of properties while supporting the Financial Manager and Financial Controller.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor cash flow and coordinate internal banking transfers.
• Prepare bank and general ledger reconciliations.
• Process and release invoices, including VAT payments.
• Manage purchase orders and supplier payment processes.
• Maintain supplier relationships and prepare supplier reconciliations.
• Capture and allocate invoices and property‑related costs accurately.
• Ensure tenant income is recorded promptly and accurately.
• Assist with budgeting, cost control and monthly rolling forecasts.
• Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
• Perform utility reconciliations and provide variance explanations.
• Support external audits and resolve audit queries.
• Manage the VAT function, including monthly calculations, VAT201 returns and submissions to SARS.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, internal policies and financial controls.
• Assist with resolving SARS queries and implementing audit recommendations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Accounting Sciences (NQF Level 6/7).
• 2–3 years’ experience in a similar accounting role.
• Previous property accounting experience is highly advantageous.
• Experience within the property and/or construction industry is advantageous.
• Strong computer literacy and accounting package proficiency.
• Good financial and business acumen.
