Project Lead – Waste to Energy

About the role

Our client, an innovative waste‑to‑energy company, is looking for a Project Lead to own the delivery of its flagship plant in Century City, Cape Town. The role spans the entire project lifecycle, from early development through construction, commissioning and handover.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the single point of accountability for all technical project stakeholders.
• Manage the EPC/EPCM contractor to ensure scope, budget, quality and schedule are met.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary consultants including civil, structural, mechanical, fire, architectural and environmental experts.
• Lead the permitting process for environmental authorisations, air‑emission licences, waste‑management licences, rezoning, building plans and fuel‑manufacturing licences.
• Oversee site development, civil works, plant installation and tendering for construction packages.
• Maintain interfaces with technology and equipment suppliers and regulatory authorities.
• Own the master schedule, critical path, budget and risk register, providing regular updates to senior leadership.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related built‑environment discipline.
• Proven experience leading delivery of large‑scale infrastructure projects, preferably in the energy or waste‑to‑energy sector.
• Strong stakeholder‑management skills with a track record of handling regulators, municipalities and multi‑disciplinary teams.
