Project Development Manager

About the role

As a Project Development Manager at TotalEnergies, you will lead the transacting and closing phase of renewable energy projects in South Africa. You will be responsible for coordinating multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the highest HSE standards.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate internal project teams covering finance, engineering, procurement, permitting, interconnection, contract management, HSE and insurance.
• Manage external advisors such as financial advisors, legal counsel, owner engineers and technical consultants.
• Optimize financial models and serve as the primary interface with off‑takers, partners, lenders and Eskom.
• Achieve financial close on schedule and under budget while maintaining quality and safety standards.
• Implement project controls including cost control, contract management and scheduling.
• Communicate progress to stakeholders and develop contingency plans to address deviations.
• Identify risks early, apply preventive measures and ensure a “no surprises” execution approach.
• Oversee contractual obligations, internal and external reporting, and prepare cost reports and KPIs.
• Lead governance processes to secure final investment decisions and support bid preparation.

Required profile

• BEng/BSc degree in Engineering (civil, electrical, mechanical or related).
• Minimum 7 years of experience in renewable energy project development or similar large‑scale infrastructure projects.
• Proven track record in delivering projects through financial close.
