Professor/Associate Professor – Mechanical Engineering

About the role

The Faculty of Engineering & Built Environment at the University of Johannesburg seeks a dynamic Professor or Associate Professor to join the Department of Mechanical Engineering Science. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, advance research, supervise student projects, and engage in departmental service.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures and tutorials in mechanical engineering subjects such as Design, Thermodynamics, Thermofluids, Theory of Machines, Manufacturing Methods, Sustainable Energy, and related areas.
• Develop and update curriculum, ensure quality assurance, and participate in academic committees.
• Conduct high‑quality research, publish in peer‑reviewed journals, and secure external funding.
• Supervise undergraduate, Master’s and PhD research projects and laboratory work.
• Contribute to departmental administration, including invigilation and student assessment.

Required profile

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly publications and research funding.
• Experience teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Commitment to inclusive teaching and mentorship of diverse student cohorts.

Required skills

• Proficiency with mechanical engineering software such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, MATLAB/Mathematica, and LabVIEW.
• Strong computer literacy for course preparation and research data analysis.
