Professor/Associate Professor – Competition, Regulation & Economic Development

About the role

The University of Johannesburg seeks a qualified Professor or Associate Professor to join the Centre for Competition, Regulation and Economic Development within the School of Economics. The role involves a blend of teaching, postgraduate supervision, and high‑impact research focused on competition, regulation and sustainable industrial development in Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to collaborative research projects on competition, regulation and sustainable industrial development in Africa.
• Design research programmes that inform policy for inclusive markets and sustainable development.
• Identify and secure substantial multi‑year research grants.
• Mentor early‑career researchers and supervise postgraduate students.
• Develop and deliver short learning and professional training programmes in the relevant fields.

Required profile

• Suitable academic qualifications (typically a PhD) in Economics or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated ability to perform full academic duties, including teaching and postgraduate supervision.
• Strong research record in competition economics, regulation economics, and/or sustainable industrial development in Africa.
